My background

I am experienced in caring for two autistic young people with multiple conditions, advocating for their educational rights and supporting their health and welfare needs. Through extensive research and collaboration with local authorities (LA) and councils, I have developed expertise in meeting diverse needs.

My passion for advocating for best practices in education led me to complete a BA (Hons) First Class in Social Welfare Law, Policy, and Advice Practice and IPSEA Level 3 Advanced SEND law. Drawing on over 14 years of lived experience and professional qualifications, I work as an independent EHCP Consultant to help families navigate the complex world of SEND education.

My work

My purpose is to help parents and caregivers navigate the Education Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) legal processes and provide impartial advice and accurate information about Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND). My focus is to guide parents, caregivers, young people, and children, so they can understand their rights in SEND processes and effectively exercise them.

I can assist with reviewing and writing applications for EHCP needs assessments, amending draft plans as per statutory guidance, and supporting clients throughout the Annual Review process, including updating EHCPs with current needs and provisions. I work closely with schools, statutory and voluntary sectors, and relevant agencies such as education, health, and social care, to promote positive outcomes for individuals.

In addition to general SEND support, I can also help with school meetings to find solutions for children and young people's education-related difficulties. Furthermore, I possess knowledge and understanding of relevant SEN legislation, including the Children and Families Act 2014, SEND Regulations 2014, SEND Code of Practice, and Education Act 1996, and can assist with writing refusal to assess appeals and working documents for section appeals.

Lastly, I offer support with DLA, PIP, and mandatory considerations. I strive to be a friendly and fair assistant, providing safe and reliable guidance to all my users.

As a parent advocate and carer

  • My role involves helping two wonderful autistic individuals who are currently unable to attend school. I assist with their, education, social activities, and even help them build friendships. I make sure to prioritise their mental health and well-being by encouraging positive self-esteem and confidence.
  • Each child has their own unique care plan that caters specifically to their needs, and I use my proactive and reactive problem-solving skills to tackle any challenges that may arise and prevent them from happening again.
  • I also work closely with healthcare providers, educational institutions, local authorities, and charities to secure the necessary support and funding. My communication skills are top-notch, and I always remain calm and professional, adapting my approach as needed. I value and respect the diverse perspectives and opinions of everyone I work with.

Complementing both caring and professional expertise

As caregivers and advocates, we develop expertise in our own rights. This knowledge complements my professional practices and enables me to fully comprehend the challenges faced by families without requiring extensive explanations. Additionally, I gain insight from the perspective of the child or young person.

My skills include staying up to date with legislative and regulatory changes, as well as monitoring the latest research and information on various conditions such as Autism, Pathological Demand Avoidance, Dyspraxia, Selective Mutism, Hypermobility, Sensory Processing Disorder, Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, Dyspraxia and Tourette’s, Panic disorder, Mental health Difficulties, and Sensory Processing Differences.

Every family has a unique story, and I utilise all of my skills to support them in achieving their personal pathway to success, regardless of how many obstacles they may encounter. My goal is to equip families with the tools they need to succeed on their educational journey.
